Who is the Right President for Self Employed Health Insurance Buyers?June 2008
Now that we know exactly
who will be running for president in November of this year, it's time to figure out how each presidential hopeful will approach the important topic of
medical insurance.
After all, health care is the 3rd most important thing on the minds of Americans right now, behind the economy and the war in Iraq, and no one would agree more than self employed health insurance buyers.
This is because those who are self employed must usually purchase their medical insurance from a private company, leaving them to deal with often higher premiums and/or deductibles, and more restrictions for getting coverage in the first place.
In general, both Barack Obama and John McCain agree that state-based medical insurance is driving up the costs of healthcare in general, especially for those who must shop for their insurance on an individual level.
Obama has suggested that he would allow the national sale of insurance so long as it went through a "National Health Insurance Exchange" that would control what companies would cover and at what price. On the one hand, this means that the federal government would be involved in the health insurance decisions of all Americans, something that many critics don't like.
On the other hand, federal standards for health care would mean that those people who don't have a lot of knowledge about the healthcare industry could still get the coverage they would need; this is something that's important not only to small business health insurance buyers, but to anyone who needs coverage and doesn't know quite how to navigate all the red tape associated with insurance today.
Facts on:
Self Employed Health Insurance
Did you know...
Self employed individuals must usually buy individual health insurance at higher costs than those employers/employees who can rely on group health insurance?

John McCain has said he would allow the nationwide sale of health insurance without government oversight, relying on a more competitive market to determine who covers what and at what price.
Either way, those entrepreneurs who struggle with payments every month will be very relieved if either candidate could offer them quality
self employed health insurance coverage at costs that don't eat into their hard-earned profits.
