In the debate swirling around medical health insurance today, President Barack Obama seems to be getting frustrated with the continuing stalemate between Republicans and Democrats. In an effort to find some kind of compromise, Obama might be relaxing his position on taxation, if it means that more people will have access to affordable health insurance.

In the past, Obama had outright rejected the notion of taxing employer-provided medical health insurance benefits. Instead, he wanted to garner the funds for his health care overhaul by increasing the taxation of higher-income Americans.

But as lawmakers continue to struggle with a means to fund an affordable health insurance plan for all Americans, Obama seems frustrated enough to embrace a different means of saving money. According to Kansascity.com, Obama recently suggested "he might be persuaded to tax so-called Cadillac coverage, benefits worth perhaps more than $13,000 a year, in the interest of a compromise with Congress."

The biggest snag in his plan appears to be the state of the American economy. Obama is walking a tightrope between improving a lagging economic outlook, and providing Americans with a medical health insurance plan that is both affordable and reliable.

Not to be deterred, however, he still asserts that he will sign a new affordable health insurance plan into law by the end of this year.

Like Obama, the American people are stuck between a rock and a hard place as well - the majority of Americans feel that we need to offer a more affordable health care plan, but they also fear that doing so will lower the quality of care that Americans enjoy.

There are 47 million Americans without coverage?
Figuring out how to negotiate all of these issues, and finding a solution that makes everyone happy, is going to involve a lot of hard work, trial, and error.

But at least we know this - insuring the 47 million Americans without coverage today is going to make a tremendous difference in their lives, as well as in the lives of all Americans struggling to find their way in today's complicated and poorly organized health care market.
