With President Obama just barely in the presidential seat, it looks
like the reform of health care policies and health insurance is a real
possibility.
How soon?
Only time will tell, but we do know that plans are already in the works
with the nomination of former South Dakota Senator, Tom Daschle to serve
as Secretary of Health & Human Services.
From Daschle's book,
Critical: What We Can Do About The Health Care
Crisis, it would appear that he's got a strong grasp of health policy.
According to an article by Karen Pallarito, US News HealthDay
Reporter talks about
health insurance studies conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation and
the Harvard School of Public Health.
These studies indicate that the public is looking forward to seeing real
progress in health reform issues. This concern is second only to our economic recovery.
Paul Duncan, professor at the University of Florida, Gainesville, says,
"There seems to be a notion that if we do good things in health care, they will not
simply cost us, but in addition, they are likely to produce economic benefits."
Facts on:
Children's Health Insurance
Did you know...
Congress recently reauthorized expansion of SCHIP to cover an additional 4 million children?
|
Further, the article points out,
"Under Obama's plan medium and large employers that don't offer
employee health benefits would pay a tax to help fund coverage--a
so-called 'play-or-pay' mandate."
The House of Representatives have already acted on one part of
Obama's plan and voted to reauthorized the expansion of the State
Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) which would add some 4
million children to the federal-state program over the next four
years.
What other help will be forthcoming only time will tell. But it seems
certain that change is on the horizon for more access to
health insurance
and reforms of health care.
