Whether it's political elections on a state or national level, more and more cries for affordable health care insurance may finally make medical coverage a reality for the millions of Americans struggling to get by in broken system.

Presidential nominees on all sides are talking about it; Michael Moore's next documentary is all about it; and even children have gone on the news to campaign for it; the country wants medical coverage to be available to everyone, regardless of their income.

And it's easy to see why health care insurance has become such a hot topic. Prices are so high that most employers can no longer afford to offer coverage to their employees. And the costs for individual, group, or family medical coverage are so high that even the middle class can't keep up, let alone anyone farther down on the economic ladder.

Costs are distributed so unevenly that women and minorities pay more for their coverage, more for their treatments, and are still unable to pay for the high costs of prescription drugs.

And health care insurance for children isn't much better; according to the Census Bureau, "The number of uninsured Americans reached an all-time high in 2005," with children making up 11.2%, or over 5 million of those without medical coverage.

As a result, medical debt has skyrocketed for consumers and hospitals, while millions of people suffer and die from preventable disease.

Facts on:

Medical Coverage

Did you know...
The number of uninsured Americans reached an all-time high in 2005?
But the voices of those 46 million people are finally gaining traction, as health care insurance promises to be the #1 topic of domestic policy in elections both current and upcoming.

Until then, it's always advisable to find the best medical coverage you can afford by shopping around aggressively and knowing both what you need, and what you can pay. But it's certainly clear that the eyes of the country will be focused on this issue, providing the best hope for change that we've seen in quite a few years.
