Will a Health Insurance Plan Pass Anytime Soon?
September 2009
Like it says at the
Washington Post, Democrats and Republicans are forming "clear battle lines" over health coverage legislation, as the Senate Finance Committee engaged in a fierce debate today over the
health insurance plan proposed by Senator Max Baucus.
Baucus' latest plan, designed in an effort to win bipartisan support for a health coverage overhaul that would provide affordable health insurance to the millions of uninsured Americans, has instead met with resistance from both sides of the aisle.
Democrats are arguing that Baucus' health insurance plan isn't affordable enough for middle class Americans.
And Republicans are claiming that they don't agree with a
health coverage mandate for all Americans, or with the fines levied against those who fail to purchase it.
And everyone is worried about the more than $500 billion in Medicare changes that is proposed by the bill. Most are designed to "squeeze waste" out of Medicare, but many people worry that seniors will suffer a loss of coverage from their health insurance plan without having sufficient options to attain decent coverage at an affordable price.
