Predicted to double in 10 YearsFebruary 2008
While
health care costs in America are at an all-time high today, a new government report shows that spending could double by 2017, reaching $4.3 trillion, a situation only exacerbated by the economic struggles predicted to increase in coming years.
And in light of such a study, the upcoming legislation dealing with health insurance takes on a new and even more important meaning.
This finding follows yet another study last month that found that, for the first time ever, health care spending grew to more than $2.1 trillion in 2006. And as baby boomers are predicted to enter into the Medicare system in record numbers, health insurance spending in the public sector is predicted to suffer under the burden of more expensive medications and treatments.
That is, if the health insurance system we have today isn't changed.
Presidential hopefuls Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John McCain have all stressed the need to reevaluate our health care system, and each of them has their own plan for making
health insurance more affordable and accessible to all Americans.

Whoever ends up in the White House, the upcoming economic downturn, combined with higher health care costs, could mean that significantly more people will be forced to go without coverage.
And 47 million is already too many uninsured.
Hopefully the next president will indeed make much needed changes to our health care system, and find a way to offer quality health insurance to everyone. Doing so could protect the health and well-being of millions of people, as well as minimizing the significant burden of medical debt.
