Obama Proposes Means for Budgeting Better Health Care
May 2009
In the battle over health care, how to go about funding more
affordable health insurance has been high on the list of questions faced by today's president.
President Obama's commitment to a health care system that would provide important services for all Americans has been roundly criticized by opponents as far too expensive, particularly now when the country struggles through economic difficulties.
But as it's revealed at
The Wall Street Journal, a budget for more affordable health insurance is out in the public eye now, and it's up to the legislators to decide whether it's to be passed.
Reportedly the budget "carves out $879 billion for health and human services spending, a 7.7% increase that includes more money for items such as cancer research and food-safety inspectors."
There's also about $600 billion included in the budget to be eked out over 10 years to help pay for the president's ambitious health care plans, including offering more affordable health insurance options for all Americans.
Increased spending would cover updates for health information technology, prevention services to keep people from getting sick, improvements on rural health care, lower prescription drug costs, the training of more doctors and nurses, and the means to fight fraud in Medicare and Medicaid.
And these are smart choices. By providing
health care prevention services and updating health care technology billions can be saved in further costs, and those billions could be later funneled into a more affordable health insurance plan.

The proposed health insurance budget will cost $879 billion?

And Medicare fraud costs American taxpayers billions a year - money that would be much better spent on health care.
Clearly providing more affordable health insurance isn't going to happen overnight. But knowing it's in the works is certainly good news.
