President Obama signed into law the expansion and reauthorization of health insurance for children whose families make too much for them to qualify for Medicare. In an article by LA Times.Com, we learn that costs can include $5.00 co-pays for some medical visits. If families can pre-pay several months in advance, reduced premiums are available.

This is good news for those of us struggling with family health insurance. Thank God for sites like Allied Quotes for giving us links to compare prices for this sort of coverage. It used to be that some of us watched poorer people get good medical coverage, and more prosperous people could pay for good health coverage, while us and our kids of the middle class went without. That is no longer the case, thanks to President Obama and his efforts on behalf of the average working family.

It's all about income and limits. If you meet the income criteria, you can get this insurance. Minimums to qualify start around $14,000 a year, depending on the number of people in your family.

Help is on the Way

A key cost for small businesses is health insurance. Small business owners are paying extra money when it comes to health insurance for them and their employees. On the average, small businesses pay as much as 18% higher costs than big businesses pay.

In a recent article by Kaiser Network, the reader is shown that a survey by Entrepreneurs' Organization reflects the concern for the high costs of small business health insurance.

Help is on the way. Our government knows this could cost Americans millions of jobs. They have a House Small Business Committee, are working diligently for us, and have reintroduced the CHOICE Act.

With the Choice Act, small businesses can negotiate prices through bulk rates through purchasing pools. But they have to act fast because one of the first things cut when business owners are faced with hard economic choices is health insurance.

healthcare reform delayed

Reuters brings news today of health care reform delays.

According to the piece

"...the Democratic-led Congress is taking longer than expected to approve Obama's economic stimulus plan, which has topped $900 billion in the Senate, and Obama has to cope with a budget deficit some estimate could top $1 trillion this year."

Given that Tom Daschle bowed out of the nomination for Health and Human Services Secretary and all that's on Congress's plate with the economic stimulus plans being debated, it's no wonder health care reform has taken a back seat for the time being.

As good as anyone's intent is and as much as one might hope to accomplish everything, no matter what the task, sometimes something has got to give. In this case it was health care.

Given its priority to the American public and its weight in the last election, health insurance and health care reform will undoubtedly get back into the spotlight again shortly. It seems that's the idea according to the article,
"Obama plans to hold a "fiscal responsibility summit" with members of Congress to address major budget issues involving the Social Security retirement program and Medicare health care program for the elderly, key elements in any major changes."

Aside from it being a major concern for most citizens, it's especially a concern for seniors what want to make sure their needs are seen to. For some seniors, Medicare takes care of their needs, while for others Medicare supplemental insurance is the right choice.

Whatever the case, it's something we can't put off much longer.
