In a recent article by the Waterford Times, we learn there is a lot of leverage applied towards a national health insurance plan. A major part of one of these national plans is for the insurance to be financed by general taxes. The term used for this is the "single-payer" system.
Health insurance companies contribute heavily to political campaigns and have a lot of leverage. The United States is the only industrialized country without universal health care. The U.S. government spends more per person for health care than any other industrialized nation that does not have universal coverage.
Let's hope the new administration comes up with a national health insurance plan, something like the SustiNet system being touted about in Connecticut.
