Some Tips on Health Insurance...

Health insurance costs have risen dramatically in the last 10 years, making it more important than ever to get multiple health insurance quotes so you can be sure to find the right health insurance plan that covers your needs and fits your budget.

Finding good coverage is easy though if you know where to look. (That's where we come in. :-)

First, when getting your health insurance quotes, make sure that you get an individual health insurance quote based on where you live.

This will give you a very broad idea of what most people pay for their coverage. But remember that this is a general idea. A more specific individual health insurance quote, based on the agency you select, will involve questions about you, your lifestyle, and your health habits.

Be sure to understand your premium and deductible, and keep those numbers firmly in mind when comparing your health insurance quotes.

A higher deductible usually means lower monthly payments, but you'll still be required to pay that deductible if something happens to you or an insured family member.

Be aware of how much is covered when you go for doctor's visits, and keep an eye on co-pays for prescriptions.

This is something that's different for everyone. A programmer in her twenties may only have a couple of annual trips to the doctor's office, but a grandfather of three may make bi-monthly trips for instance.

It all depends on your health insurance needs. This is one place costs can begin to add up and where getting help in selecting the right health insurance plan is so important.

Researching and choosing coverage from different individual health insurance quotes can seem like a big task. There are so many agents and providers and options out there, it's easy to get confused (or frustrated) and choose the wrong plan.

Needless to say, this can be expensive--or worse--especially if you aren't covered when you need it most.

The good news is that with a little help from us, choosing health insurance is something you'll only have to do once every few years.

Even with so many good agents and health insurance providers and options out there, it's still easy to get confused (or frustrated) and choose the wrong plan. However, this can be expensive--or worse--especially if you aren't covered when you need it most.

By following these techniques it's possible to get health insurance quotes for the right plan without paying too much in the process.

Types of Health Insurance Plans...

Generally speaking, most people put health insurance plans into one of three categories. In the broadest of terms, they are:
  • PPOs
  • HMOs
  • HSAs
  • PPO stands for "preferred provider organization" or "participating provider organization".

This is a managed care organization where doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers have agreed with a health insurance company to provide the insurance company's members health care at reduced rates.

HMO stands for "health maintenance organization"

This is a managed care organization where health care providers (like doctors) agree to see patients referred by the HMO and in exchange agree to provide their health care services for lower fees.

This lets the HMO typically charge lower monthly premiums to their members because members are only seeing doctors on the HMO's list of participating doctors.

HSA stands for "health savings account".
Contrary to popular belief HSAs are not health insurance plans, per se. Instead, they're actually tax-deductible savings accounts where individuals and companies can make regular contributions into an account that's to be used exclusively for health care.

Then, whenever you need to visit a doctor or get a prescription, you can draw down from your HSA to pay for these types of health care expenses.
